What Will Be Missing

06/16/09

stairs lined with remnants of Friday’s slumber party
baby doll snuggling and living room couches
rocking chairs

bicycle tires and ibuprofen

a week’s worth of laundry piled on the bedroom floor
muddy carpets and back porch picnics
dishwasher steam

paper clips and popsicle sticks

just-learning-to-shave blood down the shower drain
undressed pillows and legs to stand on
toilet paper pulp

computer games and bread crumbs

the smell of frying bacon on Saturday mornings
front door fingerprints and scrambled eggs
misplaced target practice

tantrums over hairbrushes and toothpaste

newsprint highlighted in the Sunday classifieds
laughter and swimming pools
dust to write a sonnet in
